The history of Gujarat is about 2,000 years old. The reign of the Chalukya, Solanki kings has been an era of progress and prosperity for Gujarat. Even after the actions of Mahmoud Ghaznavi, the Chalukya kings have taken full care of the prosperity and well being of the people here.
After this imperial rule, Gujarat had to face very bad days during the Muslim, Maratha and British rule as well. Gujarat was mainly divided into two parts before independence.
